Getting Here

See our Location page for more information.

The nearest landmark is Dukinfield Town Hall.  If you’re taking the bus from Stockport/airport, take the 330 bus towards Ashton; the centre is less than 2 minutes away on the same road.  Press the silver button on the wall by the door (around the corner, on Cecil Street), and wait to be buzzed in.  (Usually doors will officially open 30 minutes before an event, or 1 hour before an assessment).

Parking: There is a pay and display car park behind the Town Hall.  At time of writing (May 2017) the charges apply Monday to Saturday, at £1 for 4 hours or longer (cash only).

Taxis: 0161 343 5050 or 0161 330 2020.

Trains: As well as the central Manchester stations, there is a station at Stockport which may be more convenient as it avoids the city centre; the 330 bus runs from Stockport bus station (a short walk from the train station) to Dukinfield Town Hall, or it’s about 15 minutes in a taxi.  Or if you’re coming from east of the Pennines, Stalybridge station is another option, about 10 minutes’ drive away.

Other local stations within 20 minutes’ drive are Hyde Central, Flowery Field, or Newton for Hyde.

Airports: Manchester airport is a short (c. 30 minute) taxi journey, or the 330 bus goes from the airport to Dukinfield Town Hall.

Buses: You can get a bus from Manchester Piccadilly to Dukinfield which is an hourly service numbered 220 or 221, which drops right outside the centre.  However this route does not run at weekends!

From Manchester Victoria Railway Station, to Charlestown Station in Ashton under Lyne, walk across the road to Ashton bus station and get a 330 or 339 bus, dropping off at Dukinfield Town Hall.

There are also more regular buses (probably every 15 minutes) from Manchester into Ashton under Lyne (service 219). Then take a 330 or a 339 bus – again getting off at Dukinfield Town Hall.

The 346 goes past Barton Villa Guest House on Crescent Road.

MDIY is fully equipped with chairs, blocks, bolsters, belts, mats etc. so no need to bring your own !

The centre has three studios – most weekend events are in our largest studio, Maslen Hall, which is upstairs.  Downstairs are Booth Hall and Reed Studio, for these follow the corridor round to the right.  The kitchen/office is also downstairs.

The centre has two kitchens, one upstairs and one downstairs, for members and visitors to sit and eat lunch or make a drink.

There is WiFi, the code for which can be found in the downstairs kitchen/office.  Next to the kitchen/office is the bookcase containing our library, which you are welcome to look through.

We keep a small stock of equipment and popular books for sale.

We have a garden which can also be used at breaks; and there is a large park next to the centre if you want to walk or get some fresh air during the break.

Food And Drink

At lunchbreaks we have tea and coffee making facilities, as well as space to sit and eat, drink and socialise.  There is a small fridge and a microwave.

Across the road is Martin’s Bakery, which is open until 2.30 pm on Saturdays selling sandwiches, snacks and cakes.

Close by is a Nisa Local and a little further away a McColl’s, which sells some fresh food.  Both are open on Sundays.

Morrisons is 15 minutes’ walk, and Asda, Sainsburys and M&S are a short drive away.

For dinner, Lily’s is very popular and a short drive (next to ASM Indian supermarket in Ashton).  Click here for a list of other restaurants close by.
