Come and celebrate National Iyengar Yoga Day with us!  Come along to try a free yoga class, find out more about yoga, or have some tea and cake with us.

CHILDREN’S CLASS – 10am – 10.45am

IYENGAR YOGA FOR BEGINNERS – 10am – 11am with Sarah Barber

GENTLE CLASS – 11.15am – 12pm with Joan Abrams

The most well-known and practised method of Yoga is ‘Iyengar Yoga’, taught by Yogacharya Sri B.K.S. Iyengar of Pune, India. He was born in 1918, in Bellur, India, and studied, practised and taught yoga in India and internationally for over 75 years.  His understanding and mastery of yoga was unrivalled in modern times. He has won world-wide respect and recognition and has made yoga accessible and relevant to people everywhere. Even people with serious conditions can practise using supports or yoga props. 

Iyengar yoga is characterised by precision and alignment in the execution of the postures (asanas), sequencing of the asanas towards a desired result, timing in the length of time the asanas are held for maximum benefit, and the use of props if required to help a student gain the maximum benefit from each asana.

MDIY is the oldest and one of the largest Iyengar yoga organisations in the UK. We provide a wide range of opportunities for students to practise and develop their understanding of yoga and we are committed to spreading an awareness of the benefits of Iyengar yoga to as many people as possible. 

We are run as a mutual, membership organisation. Any surplus funds made from our yoga activities are re-invested in the maintenance and development of our building, the purchase and replacement of equipment and the day-to-day operations of MDIY.
