About The Weekend

The event is for all those with an interest in philosophy, whether teachers or students or anyone interested in the Bhagavad Gita and Yoga Sutras.  This will be a weekend connecting the yoga of Patanjali to the Bhagavad Gita.

This weekend will consist of study with Edwin, and asana classes with our very own Julie Brown, to support the philosophy study.  All classes will be online. No sessions are being recorded though, please note.

No prior knowledge is necessary for this weekend; the only requirement is to bring an open mind and sincere heart.

£100 for members, £110 for non-members

Study sessions with Edwin only: £67.50 for members, £75 for non-members

About The Teachers

Edwin Bryant is the professor of Hinduism at Rutgers University where he teaches on Hindu philosophy and religion. He received his Ph.D in Indic languages and Cultures from Columbia University in 1997. He taught Hinduism at Harvard University for three years.

Edwin has received numerous awards and fellowships, published six books and authored a number of articles on Vedic history, yoga, and the Krishna tradition.

As a personal practitioner of yoga for 35 years, a number of them spent in India studying with traditional teachers, where he returns yearly, Edwin strives to combine academic scholarship and rigour with sensitivity towards traditional knowledge systems.

Edwin currently teaches workshops on the Yoga Sūtras, Bhagavad Gita, and Hindu Philosophy at yoga studios and teacher training courses throughout the USA and Europe.

Thanks to an invitation from the Iyengar Yoga Teacher Patricia Walden to lecture on Yoga Philosophy, Edwin was introduced to the Iyengar community. His book “The Yoga Sūtras Of Patañjali” (2009) is dedicated to her, the entire Iyengar Yoga Community and to Guruji himself ‘for his enormous contribution to the well-being of humanity…’. B. K. S. Iyengar wrote the foreword to Edwin Bryant’s book.


Julie Brown qualified in 1981 and now holds the Level 4 certificate.  As well as teaching beginner, general, teacher training and teacher classes, she travels around the UK and internationally to teach workshops.

Booking and cancellation policy: MDIY members will take priority over non-members. MDIY will refund the cost of tickets (less a £5 administration charge) if notice of cancellation is received more than 7 days before the event. Cancellations received less than 7 days before the event will not be refunded.



When attending this or any online yoga class, livestreamed or pre-recorded, it is up to the individual attending to assess whether or not they are ready to attend the class in which they have chosen to participate. 
As the participant, if you suffer from specific injuries or disease, it is best to consult with your physician prior to attending.

  • You understand that this online class does not cover any liability or loss, personal or otherwise, incurred by you resulting from your participation in the online yoga class(es) offered.
  • During the online yoga class(es), livestreamed or pre-recorded, you will be asked to complete the recommended activities to the best of your ability.  The yoga activities can and may be recommended to be adapted to suit your condition, insofar as possible. Should you experience any symptoms, pain, discomfort, or other concerns that may occur or change at any point during the class, you will immediately abstain from the recommended Activities. You will proceed only at your sole discretion and at your own risk.
  • You further understand that you take full responsibility for participating in and completing the recommended yoga positions to the best of your ability.
